What Is The Role Of Heredity On Asthma ?

Asthma is a chronic respiratory disease that affects the bronchial track of a person, and causes several breathing problems and wheezing. Nearly 20 million Americans suffer form this condition. It is noticed more in males than the female population.

There is no standard cure for asthma.Asthma can also be an inherited disease some times. For many people, it is caused if they are living in a highly polluted area or even if they are being exposed to smoking in any way. However, for several children, asthma is an inherited disease. Due to asthma, the airways in the lungs get narrow, and also get blocked. It becomes more difficult for the person to breathe. When a person with this condition is having an asthmatic attack it is possible that the airways may close completely leading to death.

The chances of getting asthma can be increased due to genetic factors. For example, if your parents have asthma, then you have one in three chance of getting the disease. If only one parent has the condition, then you have a seven in ten chance of getting the disease.

Asthma is a very slow progressing condition. Even if you have asthma, there may be no immediate symptoms visible other than some allergies occurring sporadically. It may develop completely much later in life. Some of the standard symptoms of asthma are wheezing, coughing, and breathing difficulties. However, for a person to finally get the disease there should be some environmental triggers in the external environment.
